El NIDO by VC Projects, an art space since 2021
El NIDO means (the nest) in Spanish, sharing visual and performing arts, including the written word. The programming is organic and ever-changing. The curator and founder, Victoria Chapman, lives within it, dreaming and writing, absorbing the light and darkness. It’s a personal process. “El NIDO has a life of its own, moving from one creative flow to the next.”
“For instance, I began with a group show on alchemy. Then it moved to solo photography. In 2022, I felt a need to live with large paintings. January 2023, I wanted to exist within a sound chamber. Now summer of 2023, it’s the written word. I may move into the spoken word during the fall.” This seems natural; the space and I are a living organism.”
El NIDO is nestled within twenty-two artist studios dated 1923-27.
Early on, these spaces were storefronts for various sellers. During the 1960s, the artists moved in, making them live/work studios. Some time during the 70s, a gate was added at the front. Today it seems to resemble a sanctuary for visual and performing arts.
